Community Service


I have always been engaged with my community. School involvement as a parent, including Treasurer of the Trevallyn Primary School Parents and Friends Association.
As a "soccer" dad, I was a volunteer and coach at the Riverside Olympic Football Club.
I also helped the Tamar Rowing Club at the Australian Rowing Championships as well as other events at the Lake Barrington Rowing Course as a volunteer, particularly in the canteen.



David Duncan - My Story


I was born and bred in Riverside, attending Riverside Primary School and West Launceston Primary School and going on to attend Prospect High School.


Since then I have:


  1. Enrolled in TAFE Accounting
  2. Worked at Kmart for 18 months
  3. Targetts Menswear and Suit Hire for 9 years
  4. Completed TAFE Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Business)

Started in education as a Teacher Assistant (Behaviour management) for 6 years. During this time, I did my 4 year teacher training at the University of Tasmania studying a Bachelor of Education. I went on to work as a techer at Hagley Farm Primary School for 4 years, Beaconsfield Primary School for 1 year, Port Dalrymple School for 9 years and then Exeter Primary School for 10 years.


Past member of the Shop, Distributive & Allied Employees' Association (Shoppies Union)

Active member of the Australian Education Union for 24 years (Executive member for 3 years)

Continued as Cub Scout leader for 20 years


When my 2 children were growing up they were active in the Riverside Olympic Soccer Club, Riverside Swimming Club, Tamar Rowing Club and the Riverside Cubs and Scouts. One son represented Tasmania in the rowing at the Australian Rowing Championships, winning a bronze medal.


I live in Legana and have done so for 19 years.



"Service is my Motivation"


I gave 20 years of leadership as a cub leader in the Riverside Scout Group.

I am committed to supporting young people to develop leadership skills, responsibility and strong community values.


I was a union member of the 'Shoppies'. I am now a Councillor and Executive member of the Australian Education Union (AEU). I am a committee member of the Exeter Sub-Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL Australia).


I host community events including bingo and trivia evenings in the Tamar Valley region including at the Holwell Hall, Rowella Hall, Exeter Services and Community Club and the Tamar Valley Wine Centre. This encourages social connection and brings people together.
